Raising Big Bucks with a Small Staff
(Session A: CBOs & FBOs)

Non-profit organizations should have a variety of funding sources, particularly in challenging financial times.  This workshop will discuss these various types; giving special attention to how development directors working alone or with only 1 or 2 staff can juggle all of these simultaneously. This workshop will focus on: a) assessing and building fundraising capacity, and b) learning practical effective techniques for soliciting funds from individuals, groups and institutions (e.g. foundations). It is expected that attendees will commit to selecting a strategy, or set of strategies to begin immediately after the workshop. Leadership Development – “Let go if you Want it to Grow”

Financial Management 101 for Non-Profit

This workshop provides non-profit organizations with the basic ingredients for effective financial management of its operation. This class will help the participant define and understand the principles of financial management. Designing & Implementing an Effective Board of Directors
Presenter: David Wright, Executive Director, Black Ministerial Alliance

Logic Models & their uses
Presenter: Ellen G. Bass, Director, Boston Capacity Tank & Khary Bridgewater, Director, Applied Evaluation Systems, Emmanuel Gospel Center

Logic models are tables, charts or narratives that help you demonstrate a link between your resources, your program activities and your results—especially outcomes oriented results.  This workshop will help one understand the various uses and parts of a logic model as well as work with the participant in designing a simplified model for its agency or program. Effective Partnerships: Joint Ventures Where Everyone Benefits

Gender Specific Programming

What program strategies are uniquely effective to engage girls?  The workshop addresses the youth development approach, intentional mentoring, family engagement, and leadership development. Trauma 1st Aid
Presenters: Matthew Gibson, Director, NeXus Boston, & Nate Harris, Clinical Coordinator for Youth Programs, Trinity Boston Counseling Center
Physician, heal yourself!  Many youth workers have suffered trauma from the street violence, and need strategies to care for themselves and each other.  Only then can they continue to effectively care for the youth who are in trauma without risking burnout themselves.  The workshop asks participants to draw on transformational approaches to healing and self-care.  It suggests a positive assets-approach be kept in proper balance. Fundraising Events: Planning, Profit & Protection

It’s easy to say you’re going to have a fundraising event, but is it as easy to plan and coordinate? This workshop will look at different types of events and provide tips on planning an event, developing an event budget, and following IRS guidelines regarding receipts.
